What happens to all those election signs?

We've all seen the signs, during the election... but where do they all go once the election is over? Bangkok has quite a healthy industry of recycling for money. Garbage is picked thru most everywhere for ANYTHING of potential value. The recyclers or "salang" in Thai, are famous for cruising Bangkok streets with their modified 3 wheel pushcart-motorcycles. So as the polls close on 4pm on election day, it's gold rush time for the salang. They head out collecting the signs enmass. By nightfall, most signs have been scooped up. And monday morning, you'll be lucky to see any evidence of an election.

What do they do with the sings? Likely all kinds of uses from reuse as signs to roofing and home siding.

Model Thai wins dance competiion

"My aim in joining this competition isn't just to win the lucrative prizes, but also to introduce pole dancing to people in Asean countries." - Lili Ussaraporn Kosin, Thai winner of the Clorets Amateur Pole Dancing Competition in Kuala Lumpur. More...

Nice work, we are proud. But couldn't they have found a more stable pole... the one in the vid looks quite shaky.

Is this a joke: "Burma warns of terrorist acts during Water Festival"

The Nation in their wisdom posted this story:

Rangoon - Burma's junta warned of increased terrorist acts during the upcoming Water Festival and the national referendum, claiming two "terrorists" had been arrested last month, state media reports said Saturday.
Burma warning of terrorist attacks, really? The government who used deadly force to beat down monks is giving out terror advice? Really? The Junta who keeps people suppressed is not having problems with terrorism? Really?

"Ministry of Culture Bans People Named Porn"

BANGKOK - The Ministry of Culture announced today that it would impose a new ban on people named Porn, citing the name’s corrosive effect on Thai society and the damage it causes to the kingdom’s reputation abroad.

Ha ha ha.

If NotTheNation keeps this up, they could soon join the ranks of The Onion.

"The Nation" admits it 'creates' history

From the foot-in-mouth department, The Nation, admitted it's role in "creating history". I wonder how much of Thailand's history is just a creation of some editors there. Hmm..

And even more suspect. They will launch a new paper, Daily Xpress, today, but according to auditors of a not-yet-in-existence-paper, it already has:

...an audited circulation of 100,000 copies daily, will debut tomorrow morning, with distribution all over Bangkok and in Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Koh Samui.

Air hostesses fighting in uniform, whats not to love?

Seems there is some lack of appreciation for this new Thai Soap. "Songkram Nang Fah" or "Battle of Angels" seems to catching some flack from the Culture Ministry and unhappy employees of Thai Airways International.

Bangkok Post summarizes the plot like this:

The storyline of the three romances is much the same: the lead character is so angry and frustrated with the woman he wrongly takes to be "bad" and so rapes her in order to "punish" her.

Only when he finds out that the victim is actually good and innocent (a virgin, too) does he fall in love with her and tries to win her heart through many travails. It's also typical that the female loves him back, disregarding the man's anger management problem. Then it's a happy ending.

Rape first, fall in love later... isn't the the basis for any meaningful relationship?

I'am watana. I fuck you.

Passed along by a friend:

So, I get into my apartment last night and there's a piece of paper laying on my floor that someone shoved under the door - see below.

The guy who wrote the note, Watana, is the building manager and he's kind of a wishy-washy little idiot. Apperently after a party, a friend of mine decided to to futz with the camera when he was in the elevator, leading the building manager, one Mr Watana, to leave the following under my door on Tuesday.
